SS16 Dewy Vs Matte Skin and Subtle contour

Matte Vs Dewy was a great lesson to have. Minimal skin with maximum impact is vital for catwalk. Models hardly ever look caked in make up which is something that can be difficult to not do. Less is more and sometimes we can;'t help but add that second layer to improve coverage.

Matte Vs Dewy Skin-

Matte

Dewy

Creating a dewy and a matte look

Prepping the skin for healthy looking skin to achieve the best results

If you have the time, use face-masks to create the best canvas

(can be homemade and natural) or leaving moisturiser to sit and soak in the skin, especially if dry/ dehydrated skin.

Consultation to assess type of skin: Oily skin: oily skin can still be made up to have a beautiful dewy finish - think about using a matte foundation mixed with a highlighter or liquid illuminator in areas where you want the glow - start with matte in the centre with the highlighting products more towards the outer face.

Start lightly, keeping it looking natural for a radiant finish, avoiding highlighting any pores. Pointers for creating Matte/Dewy skin with different products - focus on the skin!

Tools - experiment with damp brushes or sponges to create different finishes (damp, dry)

a damp  sponge will help the product into the skin.

Serums and Moisturisers - always prep and prepare the skin when focusing on beautiful skin. Use a tinted moisturiser before you start any foundation or concealer coverage for an extra glow.

Primers - building your canvas to work with. Use a mattifying primer if the skin is oily.

Blending out the product - not using too much product and don't leave any harsh lines.

Concealers -applying after the foundation where needed to the shadowed areas on the face and to any imperfections.

Foundations - not always necessary to apply all over the face -apply in the centre/forehead and
blend out for a more flawless natural finish. Don't use too much product - catwalk fresh finish!

Contouring and Highlighting-

Blush: colour and texture (liquid, cream or powder) different tones and additional shimmer bricks.

Highlighting -powders, liquids, creams or using a lighter concealer.

Cheekbones/lip/eyes/nose/brow bone/inner eye - contouring naturally - light pushes forward, add to where the natural light reaches the face first. Not too much but enough to accentuate the look.

Bronzers - creams and/or powders Mixing products to get the desired look and the product you need e.g dabbing lip gloss or mixing eyeliner/powder to moisturiser to create a cream contour or bronzer.

Powders - use translucent for a real matt effect. With a dewy look, finish off lightly in areas of the

face -light dusting, the face should be highlighted already -assess at the end and compliment the finish. Take images to see the finished look on camera.

A dewy and a matte finish - look closely into the differences in a dewy skin (eg the element of shine/glow) and also differences in matte finishes to develop your ideas and understanding

(different powder finishes create different looks). Analyse and look closely at professional editorial and advertising images and see how you can create these same looks
