Face Lace

My original idea which was using a white face sticker in a lace design to reference Rachel Zoe's SS16 collection has hit a little bit of a dead end. White Lace stickers, which are available to order on line from Face Lace, would not arrive in time for my practical assessment or my planned catwalk photo shoot. Due to my last minute idea for using this lace sticker, the problem is down to me changing ideas. I spent an entire afternoon on-line searching for an alternative but I could not find what I was after as well as the products arriving on time.

I decided to go into Southampton and source something that would give me the same kind of effect. I visited a number of stores such as the fancy dress shops, fabric land, Claire's accessories and a craft store and eventually found two different lace masks, which are for masquerade balls. The masks are black, but the design and delicate appearance of them make it perfect for my idea. They are black in colour, which is something I wanted to stay away from however I still believe the masks will work very well with my design ideas.

Other brands to use some form of dress for the face during SS16 were Givenchy. The brands story behind the masks and jewels used during the SS16 runway, Riccado wanted a softness but strangeness explained Pat McGrath in Vogue. The masks complemented the lace elements of the clothing collection so this worked really well.

I have had an obsession with face masks and face adornments for a couple years now, specifically from a guest lecture I had back in 2012 at college. Paddy Hartley created Face Corsets which have been exhibited at the V&A Museum. The images which were shown to us during the lecture were sometimes very graphic, with images including where he got his inspirations from, which actually made a student pass out. The corsets are so weird and the way the pictures have been taken of someone wearing one, makes it equally frightening.
