ADVERTISING, EDITORIAL AND CATWALK

Advertisement, editorial and catwalk all have one thing in common, fashion and beauty. There is a fine line between the differences in advertisement and editorial, which is dependant on if the images, most commonly on blog's, in magazines or on TV are selling a product or selling a story.

Advertising-

Advertisement's are used by brands to sell a product or collection, this could be a lipstick or a handbag. Advertisements are usually one to two pages within a magazine which clearly shows the product in which the brand is wishing to promote. The images are usually very eye catching, inciting and bold. I have included several images of some of my favourite advertisements in magazines such as Vogue, Love Magazine, Red and Porter.

'A coordinated series of linked advertisements with a single idea or theme.
An advertising campaign is typically broadcast through several media channels. It may focus on a common theme and one or few brands or products, or be directed at a particular segment of the population. Successful advertising campaigns achieve far more than the sporadic advertising, and may last from a few weeks and months to years' - Definition, Advertising Campaign. Editorial-
An editorial image is a theme, story or an overall brand image. This could be a trend story, a themed story or an image representing the brands overall style and image.
Editorial work is usually within magazines or online, they consist of several images and can include written work, which is usually opinionated 3rd person articles.

'Editorial photography is very similar to fashion photography in the sense that editorial photography is usually not about selling a product but something greater. In fashion photography it’s the lifestyle, in editorial photography it’s the story or the theme'- Editorial Photography, Definition, Svenler. http://svenler.com/blog/definition-what-is-the-difference-between-fashion-commercial-and-editorial/

Catwalk-

Catwalk images can vary. They could be back stage images from fashion shows, runway shots and sometimes even re created looks from the fashion show.
The make up and hair within a fashion show reflects the brands style and the theme or mood of the seasons designs.
